Get Involved

There are many ways that schools in the region can support Initial Teacher Training.

We believe that every child in our region deserves to be taught by a well-qualified teacher. Sustaining a vibrant, diverse and expert teacher workforce for Northamptonshire schools is a key part of the TSH's mission.

How to support ITT

Schools are vital to sustaining the teacher recruitment pipeline needed in the region.

We understand that your school may not be able to support a trainee right now. However, there are many ways in which you can play an important role in supporting this challenge:

Lead

  • Provide a Lead Mentor to a provider
  • Provide a Subject Expert to a provider to support ITT delivery
  • Provide a strategic lead for a cluster of schools who wish to work together to ‘grow’ their own trainees

Contribute

  • Offer main school placements
  • Offer contrasting school placements
  • Support an ITaP with a provider
  • Offer other alternate experiences e.g.a small rural school, a special school, alternative education or specialist provision, pupil referral units, and mainstream schools with SEN resource units
  • Offer work experience to current pupils interested in degree apprenticeships, career in education

Support

  • Register to offer school experience days to support trainees’ understanding of an alternate provision, alternate Key Stage
  • Participate in provider trainee recruitment / interview process
  • Deliver a one-off ‘master class’ or session for provider’s curriculum

Promote

  • Add a ‘Get into Teaching’ link to your website/newsletter
  • Agree to put up a banner at your school to advertise teaching as a career
  • Add links to social media posts to newsletters
  • Advertise the link to NTSH and information about providers who can support community interest
  • Add ITT Provider event details to parent/carer comms
  • Invite Kate to speak with Headteachers and Governors to explore ITT engagement for your school

We need your support to boost our teaching workforce and give all children and young people the best opportunity to succeed.
