Subject Hubs

Roade English Hub

Roade Primary School was proud to be designated as one of the government’s English Hubs in 2018. The teaching of phonics and reading is incredibly important to us and we love to share what we do with other schools.

Roade English Hub provides support to local schools, academies and free schools to improve teaching of phonics, early language and reading in Reception and Year 1.

At Roade Primary School teachers teach phonics use Read, Write Inc and if you come to a showcase event you will see this demonstrated by class teachers. It is important to note that our Hub Literacy Specialists are trained to a high level in all the main phonics schemes and will be able to support your school whatever scheme you choose to use. Regardless of which scheme a school selects –it is the rigour and the consistency that is in place that ultimately sees it as successful.

East Midlands Early Years Stronger Practice Hub (Pen Green)

Stronger Practice Hubs aim to support early years settings and childminders to address the impact of the pandemic on young children, by sharing effective practice and building lasting local networks.

Pen Green will be working in partnership with Kingswood Community Nursery (Corby), Leona Smith (childminder in Leicestershire) and Charnwood Nursery and Pre-School (Leicestershire) to form the Stronger Practice Hub for the East Midlands.

Stronger Practice Hubs will support early years settings and childminders to improve outcomes for children in their local area across the Early Years Foundation Stage, but specifically focusing on areas of development that research informs us have been most impacted by COVID-19: personal social and emotional development (PSED); communication and language, and early literacy and maths.

Language-Driven Pedagogy - MFL Centre for Excellence

We provide a comprehensive programme of CPD showing how the recommendations from the MFL Pedagogy Review (2016) can be operationalised through a language-led, knowledge-rich and practice-based curriculum, whereby the three language knowledge strands: phonics, vocabulary and grammar underpin the development of confident communication, cultural understanding and creative use of language.
